Chafee appoints 5 to RIPTA board

PROVIDENCE -- Governor Chafee has made five nominations to the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority board of directors.

They are:

• Scott Avedisian, the mayor of Warwick, replacing Edward Field;

• Margaret Holland McDuff, the CEO of Family Services of Rhode Island, replacing
former Chairman John Rupp, who had resigned;

• Maureen Martin, political director for the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and state secretary of the AFL-CIO , replacing William Kennedy;

• Anna Petra Liebenow, a member of an advisory committee to RIPTA on the handicapped, replacing Rhochelle Bates Lee.

• Stephen Durkee, chairman of the Providence City Plan Commission.

The nominations were referred to the Senate Committee on Housing and Municipal Government, which will make a recommendation to the full Senate for confirmation.
