PROVIDENCE, RI -- Two Connecticut men, a father and son, are asking a federal bankruptcy court judge for help in their lawsuit against the Twin River slot parlor.

Edward and Kevin Barrows, of Stafford Springs, Conn., allege that on Nov. 1, 2008, Twin River employees wrongfully accused Kevin Barrows of stealing a $309 video-slot payment voucher, forcing his father to pay that amount to avoid Kevin's arrest, according to a filing Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Twin River officials withdrew their accusation a few days later, the filing states, after a review of video surveillance recordings showed someone else was responsible for the theft.

Kevin Barrows and his father sued the slot parlor on Jan. 30, 2009 seeking "compensatory and punitive damages." The bankruptcy court filing does not state how much money the Barrows want from Twin River.

That lawsuit, like other legal matters involving the slot parlor, was put on hold when the company that controls Twin River, UTGR Inc., filed for federal bankruptcy protection in June 2009.

The Barrows' lawyer, Thomas G. Briody, is asking the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Arthur N. Votolato to let their lawsuit go forward in state Superior Court.
