By Andy Smith Two diverse Rhode Island companies, Capco Steel and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island are looking to fill job positions even as the state's unemployment rate of 13 percent is the third highest in the country. Michael Caparco, president of Capco Steel in Providence, said the company is calling back employees who were laid off during the past six months, and now seeks to add about 50 to the workforce. Caparco said the company has landed several major jobs in New York, including the renovation and expansion of Lincoln Center in Manhattan and the construction of a new corporate headquarters for Canon USA., Inc., on Long Island. Caparco said the company is looking for experienced welders and metal workers. The best way to apply, he said, is to come to the company offices at 33 Acorn St. in Providence between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Blue Cross is looking for nurse case managers, who serve as contacts between Blue Cross and its members. Nurse case manager duties include enrolling Blue Cross members into health management programs and creating personalized care plans for those who need them. Nurse care managers should be registered nurses with three to five years of clinical experience. Blue Cross is holding a job fair for nurse care managers Thursday until 6 p.m. at its new headquarters at 500 Exchange St., Providence. Candidates may also apply online at www.bcbsri.com |
