WARWICK, R.I. -- Warwick-based ATW Companies Inc. plans to open a new facility in East Providence following the acquisition of the metal injection molding division of Morgan Advanced Ceramics, based in New Bedford, Mass.

The acquisition will create some new jobs in Rhode Island, a company spokeswoman said. The merger expands the metal-injection molding technology now offered by Parmatech-Proform Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ATW Companies, based in California.

The company will continue to operate out of the New Bedford facility for approximately six months before it relocates, so it is hard to determine at this time how many new jobs will be created, the spokeswoman said. ATW would not release the details of the acquisition or the specific location of the new facility.

The metal injection molding process creates products used in the medical, telecommunications, aerospace, electrical and power, and semiconductor and laser markets. Parmatech will enhance the technology already offered by the metal injection molding to the company, and help expand it to the east coast.

"This change in ownership will strengthen our relationships with customers,'' said Peter C. Frost, president of ATW Companies.

ATW, the parent company of A.T. Wall in Warwick, makes waveguide tubing, machined parts, sidewall frames, medical components, precision metal tubing and stamped metal parts.

The company brings 100 years of experience working with varied industries and diverse technologies including aerospace, automotive, chemical, processing, defense/firearms, electronic, jewelry and silversmiths, among others.
