BY BARBARA POLICHETTI WARWICK, RI _ The lights will go on again soon in the stalwart 1800's brick building that served as the offices for the old Rhode Island Malleable Iron Works at the corner of Jefferson Boulevard and Kilvert Street. Local developer Joe Piscopio, who owns the Hilton Garden Inn next door, is in the process of renovating the building with the intent of opening it next month as an upscale restaurant with entrees cooked on a wood-fired grill and an atmosphere that will strongly reflect the building's past. "I've driven the architect crazy but there were a lot of things I wanted to keep," Piscopio said Tuesday as he lead Mayor Scott Avedisian and officials from the city's Economic Development office on a tour what will soon be the Ironworks Tavern. From the 300-pound solid oak wood door to the original tile in the foyer emblazoned with the Iron Works' logo, Piscopio said he's trying to retain as many original features as possible. And, he said, the new construction is being tailored to fit the buildings history, such as the etched stainless steel bar, the rust-colored concrete floor, and the awnings and gooseneck lights that will adorn the exterior.
