The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority board Thursday approved long-waited plans to extend commuter rail service from Boston to T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, and ultimately to Wickford Junction in North Kingstown. The service would begin in 2011, and tentative plans call for eight trips each weekday. MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said a specific date for the start of train service has not been established yet. The trains will bring passengers from South Station in Boston. The train service will connect to a station, parking garage and rental car facility that will be linked to the airport by 1,200-foot skyway. The $267-million project is expected to be completed in September, 2010. |
