Getty gas stations in Rhode Island will soon be changing their colors to the trademark green and yellow of British Petroleum, commonly known as BP.

BP Products North American says it's taking over the Getty stations as part of its expansion of retail sites in New England. The expansion is the result of a new supply agreement with local partner Green Valley Oil LLC.

According to a filing with the Rhode Island Secretary of State's office, Green Valley Oil LLC is located on Dexter Road in East Providence and incorporated as a foreign limited liability corporation in April.

BP officials say that about 27 Getty gas stations will be "re-branded" in Rhode Island, as will about 220 more in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The change will take place over the next few months.

A spokesperson for BP said that the former Getty stations will remain independently owned and the pump prices may vary from station to station as they will have pricing discretion.

"BP is proud to be part of the greater Providence community," said Corey Correnti, president of fuel chains on the East and Gulf coasts for BP. "We're excited to showcase BP's commitment to making things a little better for our customers in each of the neighborhoods we operate by offering clean facilities, friendly service and quality fuels."

According to BP, it supplies more than 15 billion gallons of gasoline to U.S. consumer and commercial users every year. It has nearly 10,000 BP service stations east of the Rocky Mountains while it operates another 2,000 stations under its ARCO brand name on the West Coast.
