Providence Journal photo / C. Eugene Emery Jr. PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Gasoline prices made little movement in Rhode Island during the past week after a one-cent increase the previous week, according to Monday's weekly survey by the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources. The check of self-service pumps at 13 stations showed that the average price of regular remained at $2.69 per gallon Monday. Unleaded plus was 15 cents higher than regular and premium unleaded was 11 pennies higher still, at $2.95. Full service regular was 4 cents less than last week, at $2.83 per gallon. Diesel prices, which had dropped 9 cents the previous week, rose a penny, to $2.70. Home heating oil prices rose, on average, 3 cents a gallon to $2.59, according to the state survey of nine retailers. A few weeks from now, the prices could get a bit higher. Gasoline for September generally rose last week, hovering around $1.92 per gallon on Monday and spending much of Wednesday and Thursday above $2. On Friday it ranged from about $1.98 to $2.00. In contrast, crude oil futures rose throughout the week on the New York Merchantile Exchange, from about $68 a barrel on Monday to close Friday at just below $74. Home heating oil for September delivery also showed a steady rise from Aug. 17 to Aug. 21. gemery@projo.com / (401)277-7442 |
