PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A federal judge Friday ruled against the Twin River slot parlor in a case that grants thousands of dollars in overtime pay to clerks at the gambling venue in Lincoln, according to a federal court document. With his ruling, U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith ordered the slot parlor to pay about $175,000 in back pay to clerks who work Sundays at Twin River. The workers -- members of Local 334 of the Service Employees International Union -- have not been getting paid time-and-a-half for working Sundays while the case has been going on. In April, Smith granted a joint motion from Twin River and the union in which the venue deposited an initial $138,270 with the District Court and agreed to make weekly $2,000 deposits until the case was resolved. Twin River sued the union in federal court to vacate a January arbitrator's opinion granting the Sunday wages. The union, which represents gaming department clerks at the slot parlor, had 228 members in 2006, according to a filing with the U.S. Department of Labor. CommentsLeave a comment |
