Pawtucket-based Hasbro Inc. said on Monday that second-quarter profit rose from sales of toys based on "Transformers'' and "G.I. Joe.'' Net income increased to $39.3 million, or 26 cents a share, from $37.5 million, or 25 cents, a year earlier. Revenue climbed 1 percent to $792.2 million. Products based on the films "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'' and "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra'' are getting better mass-market distribution than he originally anticipated, said Gerrick Johnson, an analyst at BMO Capital Markets in New York. "Transformers,'' from Paramount Pictures, has taken in more than $360 million at U.S. and Canadian theaters. Analysts projected profit of 23 cents a share on sales of $794.7 million, the average of estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Hasbro (HAS:NYSE) closed on Friday at $25.38 a share, up 61 cents. |
