FM Global, based in Johnston, continued to hire dozens of full-time professionals for jobs at its Rhode Island and Massachusetts offices during the first half of 2009 and plans more hiring later this year, the company said Wednesday. The $4.5 billion company reported it filled 80 full-time local positions in the first six months of 2009. In 2008, the company hired 180 people for jobs in the region. Between January and June, FM Global hired 63 full-time employees in Rhode Island and 17 full-time employees in Massachusetts. Of those jobs, 20 were newly created positions (14 jobs in R.I. and 6 in Mass.), most of which were in the fields of information technology, finance, engineering and research. FM Global currently seeks to fill more than 25 positions in southern New England in the fields of information technology, marketing, training and research as the company completes its new $60 million headquarters in Johnston and finishes a $38 million expansion of its research campus in West Glocester. FM Global also has offices in Norwood and Waltham, Mass. FM Global's local workforce currently is 1,715. The company employs nearly 5,100 people--in 61 offices--worldwide who help clients protect their business operations from fire, natural disasters and other types of property risk. |
