Rhode Island has been granted $3.6 million in federal Trade Adjustment Assitance to help workers who lost their jobs due to outsourcing and foreign trade. The money, awarded by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, can be used for career training and employment and case management services. The Labor Dept. handed out $450 million nationwide including $27.3 million to the New England states. The allocations in the region were: Connecticut, $6.4 million; Maine, $3 million; Massachusetts, $12.3 million; New Hampshire, $1.3 milliion; and Vermont, $558,000. |
