New Bedford workers rally to save jobs

Workers at Eagle Industries, formerly Michael Bianco Co., in New Bedford, will rally this afternoon to save their jobs. The plant's new owner, Alliant Techsystems, which acquired Eagle on April 1, said it would close the plant on July 31, idliing 350 workers. Alliant said it would consolidate production at other of its facilities. The New Bedford plants has several defense industry contracts, including one to make backpacks. The workers are calling on the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Center, the agency that holds Eagle's contrtact, to preserve the jobs.
