RVs are set up at the Rhode Island Convention Center for the 2009 car show.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting that starts Friday in Providence is certainly high profile. First, the event was in the news for having attracting the vice president and several other cabinet members. Then, it made headlines when Joe Biden canceled his planned speech to avoid crossing a union picket line. But despite all the attention, the mayors' meeting, with its 1,000 participants, is not particularly large, according to the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau. The glass-walled Rhode Island Convention Center, opened in 1993, regularly attracts events more than double that size, helping to fill downtown hotels and restaurants. It may not be the largest, but it will be among the most memorable. Considering these events:
The Mayor lying about co-pay for healthcare.
The ProJo editorial blaming Grand Forks, North Dakota Firefighters for the labor dispute in Providence.
The Projo contradicting it's own stories in the editorial.
The disclosure of a $25,000 study the taxpayers paid for that the Fire Chief will not read and the Mayor will not release for some strange reason.
Pointing out the ineptness of the Cicilline Administration to fail to reach a contract while lining their friends pockets by using the Arbitration process to their own profit.
A memorable conference, indeed! The fireworks Monday night will pall in comparison.
