Plans in Connecticut to legalize Keno will require changes to the state's memorandum of understanding with two Indian tribes, the Mashantucket Pequots and the Mohegans, accoridng to Connecticut http://media-newswire.com/release_1092141.html.

He said the proposal to bring Keno to Connecticut, suggested last week by Gov. M. Jodi Rell as a way to raise about $60 million a year in new revenue, could risk the $400 million the casinos provide the state annually in slot machine revenues.

Under the memoranda between the tribes and the state, no other person within Connecticut has the right to operate a "commercial casino game."

Rell noted that more than a dozen other states have the game, including neighboring Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York.

Keno is a form of electronic gambling. In some places players select a set of numbers at a terminal where their tickets are printed. Every several minutes the games are displayed on a monitor where ping-pong like balls land on a spread of numbers. When players win -- with enough of their numbers matching those selected on the screen -- they collect their winnings from the establishment, whether a restaurant, bar or casino.
