PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Gasoline prices have made another big jump. The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources said its Monday survey found prices for self-service regular were a nickle higher, at $2.60 cents a gallon, compared to Tuesday, when the last survey was done. That's a 14-cent hike in two weeks, part of a steady increase consumers have seen since the prices bottomed out at $1.66 at the end of December. The rise came despite relatively little change last week in the price of crude oil. However, gasoline futures did rise, going up to about $1.96 per gallon on Friday. The price of diesel increased even more, rising 10 cents per gallon to $2.60. It hasn't been this high since the end of January. Home heating oil was selling for $2.47 per gallon, an eight-cent jump. The price has gone up 28 cents in the last two weeks. |
