Climate Counts, a nonprofit advocacy group in Manchester, N.H., has ranked Hasbro as the most environmentally responsible large toy maker in the country. The rankings, announced on Earth Day, named Pawtucket-based Hasbro "the clear sector leader," with more than double the score of its closest competitor, Mattel. The ranking reflects a company's efforts to combat global warming, including support for "green" legislation and efforts to calculate its "climate footprint." Still, Hasbro's performance is nothing to brag about, Climate Counts said. The group, for example, found "no public information to suggest that Hasbro supports public policy that addresses climate change." Over all, of the 13 industries included in the rankings, toy makers received the lowest scores. "Car seats, toys, strollers and other child products are about keeping our children safe -- and the climate crisis represents a toxic threat to our children's future," Wood Turner, Climate Counts' executive director, said in a statement. |
