Mass. businesses support gas tax hike

Here's a switch - business owners in favor of a tax hike. Five business groups, including the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, yesterday endorsed a 25-cent hike in the Massachusetts gas tax that would make it the highest in the nation. The hike would generate $650 million a year to fix roads and bridges and pay down the state's transportation-related debt. The business proposal is higher than the 19-cent gas tax hike proposed by Governor Patrick. Any gas tax hike would have to be approved by the Massachusetts Legislature.
