Foxwoods Resort Casino today reported $58 million in slot revenue last month, a 1 percent increase over February 2008. As part of their revenue sharing agreement, the casino's owners, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, paid $14.5 million to Connecticut, increasing to $2.8 billion the total payments to the state since January 1993, when slot machines were introduced at Foxwoods. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, Connecticut's two tribal-run resort casinos, have been struggling to reverse months of revenue declines amid the economic downturn. The casinos have tried to convince people that they are a good entertainment value, even in tough times. Foxwoods is offering deals that package several amenities for one discounted price. Packages that include dinner for two, admission to the Grand Salon and Spa and an overnight hotel stay range in price from $116 to $186. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun both installed more penny and nickel slot machines and lower-limit table games in their gaming halls. In a pitch dubbed, "Stimulus, Recovery and Rebound," Mohegan Sun last month called attention to its new slot machines, low-limit tables and hotel rooms for as little as $99. |
