Northwest Woolen Mills, a division of The Brickle Group, has won a $19 million, six- year contract to manufacture military berets for the U.S. Dept. of Defense.
The contract will allow the company to add employees to the current workforce of 50, said Max Brickle, president and owner of The Brickle Group. He also said he is negotiating with a subcontractor to move that operation to Rhode Island.
Brickle said the contract validates the company's use of LEAN manufacturing, a system designed to cut waste, boost production and engage employees in the process. Privately-held Northwest, based in Woonsocket, has annual revenues of about $14 million.
