Johnson & Wales University did not sugarcoat the economy in a series of job seminars for students today. In a session called Navigating Your Job Search in A Recession, students were told that a succesful job hunt could take at least nine months, and they should not wait until after graduation to start looking.

Johnson & Wales plans a major job expo for its students on March 19. Sheri Ispir, director of career development for Johnson & Wales, said the university's goal was to bring in 120 companies on campus "How were we going to do that if no one's hiring?" she said. So Johnson & Wales has waived the customary fee it charges employers to be at the job expo, and expanded the event to include non-profits and companies with part-time opportunities. Even so, Ispir told students not to be disappointed if companies at the expo aren't hiring.
