By C. Eugene Emery Jr. PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The executive director of the Rhode Island Broadcasters Association today declared that this week's transition to digital television "was extremely successful." Lori Needham said broadcasters will continue to offer help to consumers who still need assistance now that old-fashioned analog programming is mostly gone from the Rhode Island-New Bedford market. Callers to the RIBA digital TV help desk who seemed to be struggling with the conversion will received followup calls over the next few days, she said, but estimated that fewer than 50 people fall into that category. I heard that people in metro Providence with the analog-to-digital converters only get one or two stations. They don't concur that the new-fashioned digital programming is 'extremely successful'.
