Joe Martin, who became chairman of the American Hotel & Lodging Association this year during a profound crisis for the country's hospitality industry, will speak tomorrow at Johnson & Wales University. The struggling economy has crippled the hotel business, as corporations have cut down on travel and tourism has slowed dramatically. Martin, the 50th Distinguished Visiting Professor at the university's Hospitality College, is the owner of Oklahoma-based Stillwater Hospitality and a longtime board member of the hotel and lodging association. He will speak at Xavier Auditorium, the university announced. Last month, Roger J. Dow, a former Marriott executive and the head of the Travel Industry Association, visited Johnson & Wales, where he spoke about the impact of the recession on restaurants, hotels and transportation, The Providence Journal reported. |
