Pawtucket-based Collette Vacations has laid off 40 employees, saying the economic slowdown has would-be travelers opting for less-elaborate holidays. Advanced bookings for travel this year are down 21 percent, John Galvin, the chief financial officer, said in an interview today. "It's unfortunate," he said. "It kind of breaks our heart." Thirty six of the dismissals were at the company's Pawtucket headquarters, with another four in offices in Canada and Great Britain. Before the layoffs, the company had 426 full-time employees worldwide. |
