Can't wait to file your federal income tax return? On Friday, the Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting returns filed electronically from Rhode Island and other states. "This Friday, we open the doors on the filing season," said David Williams, a top IRS official who oversees electronic filing. Because of the state of the economy, the IRS reckons that more people will be looking to file their returns early this season in order to obtain their refunds sooner. Filing electronically typically delivers the refund more quickly than if you file on paper by mail, Williams said. Almost 58 percent of all returns were filed electronically last year, the IRS said. |
