Us. financial markets, including the stock market, are closed today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 8281.22, and is down 5.6 percent in 2009. The Standard & Poor 500 Index is off 5.9 percent for the new year. The Nasdaq Composite Index is down 3 percent in 2009. Among Rhode Island's biggest public companies, CVS Caremark Corp. (CVS:NYSE) is off 6.6 percent in 2009 and 26.7 percent during the last 12 months. Pawtucket-based Hasbro (HAS:NYSE) is down 7.8 percent for this year but is up 27.1 percent over the last 12 months. Textron (TXT:NYSE) is off 14 percent in 2009 and is up 1.3 percent during the last 12 months. |
