U.S. air travel has been slowing, evidenced by the generally dreary performances by the major air carriers last year. American Airlines, for example, saw a nearly 5-percent drop in traffic last year, and United Airlines recorded a 6.5-percent drop, The Providence Journal has reported. But according to the trade newspaper Travel New England, bus travel "is booming." "According to a recent study by Chicago-based DePaul University's Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development, in 2008, the intercity bus industry posted its biggest one-year gain in service in about 50 years," Travel New England reported. "Boston South Station's bus terminal, the fastest growing transportation center in Boston, is no exception." |
