With Congress debating an economic stimulus that could inject billions of dollars into alternative energy projects, Applied Science Associates, a science and technology consultancy in Narragansett, has hired a wind energy expert. Daniel Mendelsohn worked at ASA from 1985 to 2001. He will now join the firm's Energy Resources Group, the company announced in a statement. "Among Daniel's recent accomplishments is his leadership role in a series of sustainable energy projects both local and global," the company said. "Locally, for the State of Rhode Island, he was Principal-in-Charge and project manager, Wind Resources and Environmental Engineer for the RIWINDS project, to assess the feasibility of producing 15% of the state's aggregate electrical demand from wind generation." Rhode Island is considering building the country's first off-shore wind farm, potentially using federal stimulus funds to pay for the nessecary transmission lines. In addition to its Rhode Island headquarters, ASA has offices in Australia, Brazil and Dubai. For more information on the potential for wind energy in Rhode Island, read stories by Providence Journal reporters Benjamin N. Gedan and Timothy C. Barmann here and here. |
