Gasoline prices continues to fall

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island continued their unprecedented drop, with the average price falling another 4 cents over the past week.

A survey of local stations by the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources found an average price of $1.879 a gallon, the lowest average price in nearly four years. Th elast time gasoline was this low was in January 2005.

Gasoline prices set a record high just five months ago, hitting $4.119 a gallon in June. The average price has dropped $2.24 a gallon, a 54 percent decline.

The average price of home heating oil was unchanged at $2.509 a gallon. The Energy Resources office survey found a vast range of prices, from $2.089 to $2.999 a gallon.

Diesel fue finally dipped below $3 a gallon. The average price was $2.948 a gallon, according to the survey.
