Yields on certain U.S. Savings bonds, called Series I bonds, have soared because of inflation. New Series I bonds -- those purchased now through April 30 -- will earn interest at an annualized rate of 5.64 percent, the U.S. Treasury says. The yield on new Series I bonds has two components: A fixed rate of 0.70 percent, and an annualized inflation rate of 4.92 percent. The Series I bond's fixed rate is an increase over the 0 percent rate set in May. The Series I bond's semi-annual inflation rate of 2.46 percent is an increase over the 2.42 percent rate set in May. |
