The Internal Revenue Service says it's holding more than $800,000 in unclaimed tax refund checks for more than 1,300 Rhode Islanders. The IRS mailed the checks earlier this year, but the checks were returned because of mailing address problems. Included in the batch are 1,000 federal rebate checks totaling more than $500,000, and 300 regular tax refund checks totaling more than $300,000, the IRS says. If you're missing a rebate check or tax refund check, contact the IRS to provide your correct current address. Use the IRS Web site or call the IRS toll-free at 1-866-234-2942 (for missing rebate checks) or 1-800-829-1954 (for missing tax refunds). Or call the IRS's main customer-service line toll-free at 1-800-829-1040. |
