Rhode Island's health care industry and the proposed merger of Lifespan and Care New England, will be discussed by Atty. Gen. Patrick C. Lynch today at Westerly Hospital 5:30 PM.

Lynch will speak to hospital's directors, medical personnel, and staff.

Lynch will talk about the complexities of the process and the specific responsibilities that must be fulfilled - pursuant to the Hospital Conversion Act - before any decision on a proposed merger can be made, and discuss what a proposal might mean in terms of Rhode Islanders' ability to access quality health-care services.

Lynch and Dr. David Gifford, director of the State's Department of Health, must approve any merger.
