James Barata, a member of Providence's Local 37, Ironworkers of America, guides an iron beam into place on the top floor of the $60-million corporate headquarters of FM Global, the insurance company in Johnston. The building off Central Avenue is scheduled to be completed in about a year, say officials. Today, workers and executives held a topping-off ceremony, signaling that the main iron superstructure is complete.

But before FM Global can finish construction, town officials are expected to consider some potential flooding scenarios and traffic-alleviating improvements along Atwood Avenue. The Planning Board will consider the needed approvals at a Sept. 2 meeting. Planning officials are under a Superior Court order to revisit FM Global's approvals for the project, after FM Global's landlord appealed permit decisions.
