Governor Donald L. Carcieri is scheduled to participate in the New England Governors' Energy Summit today at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in Boston. The Energy Summit provides a forum to discuss regional approaches to common energy issues, promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency, and developing collaborative solutions to increasing energy costs. Also participating in the Energy Summit will be Andrew Dzykewicz, Commissioner, Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources, who will make a presentation on developing renewable regional power options. Carcieri said last week that Rhode Island has taken a step toward renewable energy projects with the announcement of the $3.2 million in funding for the Special Area Management Plan covering Rhode Island's offshore waters, executed by a joint partnership between the Coastal Resources Management Council and the University of Rhode Island. The plan will expedite the permitting of an offshore wind farm capable of supplying 15% of Rhode Island's electric energy usage. |
