PROVIDENCE -- Marco Riz, who is accused of carjacking, kidnapping and raping a woman, is expected today to waive his right to a bail hearing and agree to be held at the Adult Correctional Institutions while a grand jury reviews the case.

That is according to his lawyer, public defender Sarah Wright. If the grand jury returns an indictment, it would likely happen in September or October, Wright said.

Today's scheduled court session before Judge Albert E. DeRobbio has not yet started. Wright said the bus bringing Riz from the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston to District Court, Providence, broke down.

The police say Riz kidnapped a woman from a Stop & Shop parking lot on Route 2 in Warwick, then drove her -- in the Ford SUV in which she was sitting -- to Roger Williams Park in Providence, where he is accused of raping her.

On June 17, Riz was arraigned in District Court, Providence, on two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a 30-year-old woman in Roger Williams Park on June 8.

On June 23, Riz was arraigned in Kent County District Court on charges of kidnapping, carjacking, assault with a dangerous weapon and first-degree robbery.

Riz was ordered held without bail at both arraignments.
