One of the biggest job fairs of the season will be held today as graduating college seniors and unemployed workers navigate one of the toughest job markets in years.

The annual Career & Job Fair sponsored by the University of Rhode Island Career Services office will be held from 11 AM – 3 PM at the Ryan Center on the university's campus. More than 100 employers and other organizations will be in attendance. Free resume critiques will also be available! for all URI students, staff, and alumni. The public is also welcome.

Rhode Island has lost 7,700 jobs in the last year, including 1,200 in February, and the unemployment rate has jumped to 5.8 percent, with 33,400 residents out of work. Analysts say the economic slowdown could turn into a recession.

Not all job sectors are experiencing declines - nurses and accountants are still much in demand. But people interested in real estate or construction will probably have a tougher time landing a job.
