Cranston-based Ross-Simons opened its 14th store, this one in Stamford, Conn., today. Founded in 1952, the company sells jewelry in its stores, in catalogs, on its Internet Web site and through televised shopping channels. Ross-Simons is controlled by Freeman Spogli & Co., a Los Angeles-based investment firm that specializes in consumer-related businesses. Ross-Simons operates two stores in Rhode Island, in Providence and Warwick, two in Massachusetts and some as far south as Georgia. The jewelry retailer opened its new store in a 2,500-square-foot space in Stamford Town Center, in the affluent city of 125,000 people located about 40 miles east of New York City.
