Oceanlinx, the Australian company that has proposed building a wave energy project on Rhode Island’s southern shore, has dropped its plans to build a similar facility in Oregon. But a company executive said Oceanlinx hasn’t changed its plans for Rhode Island. “We’ve withdrawn our current FERC application for Oregon, but intend to pursue it at some stage in the future, when the time is right,” said Tom Denniss, executive director of Oceanlinx, based in Botany, Australia. “…We found we were a little overcommitted to projects relative to our resources,” Denniss said by e-mail. “We felt we would not do the job well if we continued to stretch ourselves too thinly – better to do fewer projects well, than to do many poorly.” “Nothing has changed with our Rhode Island project which, to a large degree, depends on the state government’s new energy legislation. I believe this is still be formalized. The timing of the project will be determined by issues such as these.” |
