John Tomaz, a 30-year veteran at the Wardwell Braiding Machine Co., based in Central Falls, has been named president, succeeding Jonathan Farnum, who held the position for the past 37 years. Farnum will remain as chairman of the board and will remain involved in the company’s activities. The change in leadership became effective March 1. Tomaz, 52, had been vice president of sales and marketing since 1999 with responsibility for combined worldwide marketing, sales and service activities. Prior to that, he served as director of sales and marketing and sales manager for Latin America. Tomaz said he expects to carry on the style of leadership established by Farnum. In another managerial change, Wardwell announced that David Farnum, 35, the son of Jonathan Farnum, has been promoted to director of sales and marketing. He will divide his time between Central Falls and Shanghai. Since 2003, Farnum has served as sales manager for North America, responsible for all marketing, sales and service activities. He is currently leading a joint venture company in China. Wardwell Braiding Machine is a leading supplier of braiding equipment. The company was founded in 1911 by Simon Wardwell. During Jonathan Farnum’s tenure, Wardwell expanded through a series of mergers and acquisitions in North America, South America, Europe, and the Pacific Rim. The company now has offices in Europe and Asia. Wardwell has 61 employees an annual sales in excess of $10 million. |
