PROVIDENCE -- The Rhode Island Convention Center Authority, owner of the Dunkin' Donuts Center, has begun planning events to celebrate the completion of the arena's $80.5-million renovation.

The authority hopes to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 5, "to open it with grand fanfare," David A. Duffy, chairman of the authority board, said today. That ceremony will be followed by public tours of the building the next day and concerts the following weekend.

More than 80 percent of the 3-year project is complete. But the arena will close one more time, this summer, for the installation of about 12,500 new seats.
