Here's a nice deal just in time for the tax season.

Intuit is offering its TurboTax Deluxe as a free download. The software guides you through preparing your income tax return by asking a series of questions in plain English. When you're finished, you can print out your completed return, ready to be mailed to the IRS.

Intuit says that this "Deluxe" version is appropriate for those who own their own home and have deductions such as donations to charity, medical, education or childcare expenses. It also also comes with a free download of the state income tax application, Intuit says.

For those who own investments or run their own business, the company recommends more advanced versions of TurboTax, which are not free.

The link is http://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/deluxe.jhtml. Downloading the 90 megabyte file is free, while ordering the CD costs $44.95.

Choose Download for Windows (or Mac), click Add to Cart, and then check out. Users are required to register, though no credit card is required.

Not able to download this so-called free software w/o supplying payment method (which didn't even allow a place to give payment method). ALSO, in going through the motions I find it was placing me on an "Automatic renewal" plan.

Thanks for wasting my time.
