The Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council will announce the recipients of this year's Rhode Island Research Alliance Collaborative Grants at its next meeting, on Friday, Jan. 25.
In all, the state agency is giving out $1.5 million to promote research at local companies and universities, The Providence Journal has reported.
The program began in 2006, when the advisory council gave out a similar amount of money to 32 researchers from 15 academic and corporate institutions. The average council grant was $187,500.
Applications for this year's awards were due last September. The meeting to announce the winners begins at 10 a.m. in Room 313 of the State House. Council members also plan to discuss their legislative agenda for the 2008 session.
The council, created by an executive order in 2005, describes itself as "a coalition of business, academic and government leaders with the mission to make innovation central to the state’s leadership agenda."
