With home heating oil at a record $3.429 a gallon in Rhode Island, organizers of this year's Celebrate Rhode Island Ball hope to raise $150,00 to help low-income families heat their homes this winter. Proceeds from the gala, scheduled for Jan. 18 at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet in Cranston, will be deposited with the Salvation Army's Good Neighbor Energy Fund for redistribution. Overall, the Good Neighbor Energy Fund has set a fundraising goal of $600,000 this winter to help families pay gas, oil or electric bills who are not eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Governor Carcieri, and his wife, Suzanne, are co-hostsof the event. For more information, visit www.celebrateri2008.org or call 401-781-WARM. |
