Governor Carcieri may be getting more help in his efforts to push alternative energy. In a column in yesterday's Providence Journal, William Patenaude, a writer for The Rhode Island Catholic, said the Vatican is becoming more active in combating climate change. "As the Ocean State moves forward with plans to actually site and build wind farms, its Catholic citizens must be ever mindful of the social and ethical imperative to support such plans — even if it means having a turbine rise not far from our own backyards," Patenaude wrote. Rhode Island is the most Catholic state in the U.S. Carcieri may also be getting backing from the Rhode Island Economic Policy Council, which is considering an endorsement of a new power authority designed to speed the development of alternative energy projects. The Providence Journal reported today that the policy council board will discuss a possible endorsement at its quarterly meeting tomorrow. The meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. in the State Room of the State House. |
