The Providence Foundation elected its officers last night at its annual meeting at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, attended by Governor Carcieri, Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline and U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse.

The politicans were not the only well-known figures in the arena. The officers elected to oversee the organization in 2008 were: Robert Gilbane, president of Gilbane Inc.; Frederick Butler, a vice president at Textron; Arnold Chace Jr., president of Cornish Associates; and William F. Hatfield, the Bank of America market president for Rhode Island.

Gilbane was elected chairman, Butler vice chairman, Chace secretary and Hatfield treasurer.
