A third casino in Connecticut?
Economists and researchers at the University of Connecticut have issued a new report, calling for at least one more casino license to protect the state from the loss of gambling revenue to Massachusetts, where Gov. Patrick has proposed three casinos.
The report said casino revenue returned to the state of Connecticut from Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun has leveled off at about $430 million after years of rapid growth. The state would lose more revenue, especially if Massachusetts allows a casino in the western part of the state that would draw Connecticut gamblers and keep Massachusetts gamblers at home.
To allow a third casino, the state would have to renegotiate agreements the state signed with the Pequot and Mohegan tribes to allow them to open Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun.
